Feeding San Pedro
The US is the richest country in the history of the world, but for inconceivable reasons, food insecurity is still a reality for way too many people. About 12.5% of Americans rely on SNAP / Food Stamps to access the nutrition they need to live - in San Pedro, that equates to about 10,000 people. Even more rely on non-profits and grassroots organizers to feed their bellies.
It’s become increasingly clear that we cannot rely on the government to ensure that our most vulnerable neighbors have their basic needs met. The choice is clear; will we watch our neighbors starve? Will we tolerate children going to bed hungry while their brains develop without sufficient nutrition?
We say no.
We’re not experts and we’re going to make a lot of mistakes while we learn how to tackle such a massive, urgent issue. But we are united by the fact that we can’t do nothing so we will do SOMETHING.
