Our Mission Statement
Our mission is to foster a collaborative and radically inclusive community where every voice is valued, and where we work together to address and challenge systemic inequities in the San Pedro community. With imagination that extends beyond the status quo and a commitment to progressive change, we strive to create a supportive space that encourages personal growth and collective action as we create the neighborhoods we all want to live in.
Our Guiding Principles
-

Invest in Your Community
We intend to form and foster strong ties while workin to actively improve our community. Members are expected to be a part of at least one affinity group and actively participate based on individual capacity. As individual capacity fluctuates, openly communicate capacity. Recognize that the labor burden often falls to marginalized communities and proactively seek to rotate responsibilities to share the load.
 -

Affinity Groups
Members are empowered to initiate and manage affinity groups to take ownership of community-building initiatives so long as the initiatives are aligned with the community agreements. Each affinity group must consist of at least three active SPCC group members, who agree to take responsibility for ensuring compliance with SPCC community agreements.
 -

Respect and Inclusivity
Honor and acknowledge the diverse feelings, lived experiences, and cultural backgrounds of all members. Be actively inclusive by earnestly seeking to identify opportunities to better meet the needs of our diverse community. Use progressive stack, a process in which people from marginalized groups are invited to speak first, in group discussions to prioritize historically marginalized voices.
 -

Embrace a Growth Mindset
As the community grows in understanding, these community agreements should evolve alongside. Members are encouraged to question and amend the community agreements as necessary with broad group consensus.
 -

Active and Empathetic Listening
Listen attentively and respectfully, giving each person an equal opportunity to share their thoughts without interruption. Embrace an open mind and show empathy towards others' experiences.
 -

Zero Tolerance for Discrimination
Maintain a space free from any form of discrimination. Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, ableism, ageism, zionism, etc. will NOT be tolerated in this space. Respect and inclusivity are foundational to our interactions.
 -

Assume Positive Intent
Approach all interactions with the belief that members have good intentions. Focus on the impact of actions and ideas rather than personal attributes. Choose to be open to asking and answering questions, and hearing diverse points of view. Create space to work toward our common goals, even when perspectives and personalities are diverse.
 -

Stand with Oppressed People Everywhere
Recognize the intersectionality across systems of oppression and acknowledge the impact of colonization and oppression of indigenous, brown, and BIPOC people. Commit to solidarity with oppressed people all over the world. We recognize the genocides that our government enables in Palestine, Sudan, China, the DRC, and countless others all over the world.
 -

Autonomy and Flexibility
Recognize that this is an anarchist space where all members have the autonomy to determine their level of participation. Acknowledge strengths and embrace learning to fill knowledge gaps to grow individually and as a community. Practice transparency to ensure that we can hold each other accountable for our community agreements.
 -

Constructive Disagreement
Embrace and work through disagreements constructively. All questions should be welcomed and addressed with clarity and kindness, even when discomfort arises.
 -

Take Space, Make Space
Ensure balanced participation by making room for all voices and perspectives. Avoid dominating conversations, use succinct language to avoid rambling, and allow everyone an equal chance to contribute. Embrace silence to allow space for others to speak. Hold yourself and those around you accountable.
 -

Health and Safety
Adhere to health considerations by following requests for masks, staying home when sick, and testing for COVID-19 exposure. Prioritize the well-being of all members with active inclusion to create safer spaces.
